Sarah Griffith is a dynamic forward from Naperville, Illinois, who’s favourite soccer memory is signing her first professional contract in 2022 after being selected 35th overall of the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) draft to her hometown club, the Chicago Stars. 


Following the NWSL season, she went on loan to the Newcastle Jets FC in the Australian Women’s A-League before returning the the Stars for 2023 and 2024, amassing six assists. Sarah joins Calgary Wild FC on loan for the 2025 season. 


Sarah took her talents to NCAA Division I playing for Purdue University. Sarah overcame a near-career-ending condition in 2018, Spondylolisthesis, a spinal disorder requiring surgery. After 18 months of recovery, she returned to the field stronger than ever. In 2021, she earned Big Ten Forward of the Year honours and was named to the All-American Second Team. 


During her time at Purdue, Sarah helped lead her team to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. She set five schools records, including goals in a season and consecutive games with a goal, and was second in NCAA Division I with 2.67 shots on goal per game. She also led the Big Ten with 20 points and nine goals in 10 conference games. 


Did You Know… Sarah’s role model is her late grandfather, Robert Downin, who taught her the values of hard work, selflessness and the importance of family. She developed a love for the game playing in the backyard with her brothers.  Her favourite part of gameday is the joy and bonding in the locker room after a win…Off the pitch, Sarah likes to explore the city, cook a nice dinner and puzzle. She also enjoys giving back, volunteering with organizations where she can share her love and joy of the game, instilling confidence in young women to believe in themselves and pursue their dreams.
